Something a bit different this time around - these are the Federation Bells and the the first piece of the show that was part of the Arts Festival in M-Town. The performers are atop flexible stilt fixtures that allow them to move around the top of the bells. Certainly something different...

Twas a fun day at Birrarung Marr, watching kiddies get tackled for sneaking into the festival, my eyes having a fit trying to watch Crystal Castles' light show, Luke Steele's whackiness almost matching that of his ex-partner, but his weirdness totally exceding Littlemore's... Blueprint Festival 18/09/2009 - 21/09/2009

Blueprint Festival, aka Pooprint Festival, took place at a swamp in Tatyoon, not what you'd expect for a music festival. Well sneaky beer, and eventually free beer perked things up a bit, and along with a pretty cool lineup the weekend turned out pretty good in the end. After a pretty crappy Friday night, with bands starting nearly FOUR HOURS late, the Galvatrons really made things worthwhile. Here's She's In Love:

Following the Basics was a beer run to Streatham, courtesy of Kman, Amfony and Tait (aka Goon Belly). This helped us cheer up a lot.


In the wind of Sunday, our tent hardly stood a chance...


Sunday afternoon brought with it some great tunes. This is Clare Bowditch and Autumn Bone. Sorry this one's not too great cause I was up the back.


Meanwhile, Kman and Amfony were getting up to mischief, taping random rubbish to people's backs. They developed quite the fan base, too. This video is Kman attempting to get the lead singer of Me. Turned out it wasn't him...

Dappled Cities and Philadelphia Grand Jury @ The Corner Hotel, Melbourne (15/08/2009)

Night three of three at the Corner Hotel! This time it's for Dappled Cities and one cool gig.

Up first was Philadelphia Grand Jury (aka The Philly Jays), a band that's getting a lot of hype at the moment and a lot of support slots. It was strange that they only got a half hour and Yaught Club DJs got two one hour sets, but they were worth popping down early for, if only for the bassist's killer beard (in Gary-ism: "Holy Beard!"). They were fun, though, with simple songs and lots of energy. Here's their last song, complete with some stupid behavior at the end:



Headliners, Dappled Cities, put on a nice show as well. The new material is growing on me, but I still enjoy the older stuff a lot more. Holy Chord was a pleasure, and I tried to get a good photo of all the (jazz) hands going up in front [see above] but couldn't get a great shot. As much as I love Dappled Cities, some of their songs just go on a little too long on stage. The encore was the best part of the night, though, with the band coming out in fairy-light-covered jumpsuits to sing The Price and Apart from their new album.
