When I probably should have been doing assignments, I was at a festival in Bendigo. Surprise surprise. My review of all the action is here on FasterLouder. Sorry about the puns, I was told (by a certain editor) to go right ahead and include them.
Highlights of the day - ART vs SCIENCE in the tent with the inflatable penguin flying around to Flippers ("Use your flippers to get down"); The Drones awkward stage banter ("I think we should play a song" ~ Gareth Liddiard); Little Birdy (the whole set) and Katy Steele cracking it at someone in the crowd (not sure who or why, but it was funny); Ratatat for being an awesome surprise; and Hilltop Hoods, with the amount of times they got the crowd to put their hands in the air.
Here are some clips from the festival:
1. Little Birdy - C'mon c'mon - opening song
2. Little Birdy - Brother (my camera wasn't agreeing with the lighting for this one)
On Saturday 2 May, James, Tess, Gary, Adele and I went skydiving at Euroa. Perfect weather meant that the view was spectacular, except a lack of wind actually resulted in us coming down quicker - dammit! This was the most awesome experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who's up for a thrill!
So, here's me:
And here's Gary (he was smart and changed the music to his own selection):
I'll try to get the other videos up here at some stage.
There I was, yet again at the Palace, yet again on the balcony. The Eagles of Death Metal put on a very cool show. I'm glad I found out that Josh Homme never tours with them a while before the show rather than find out on the night. Still, I'll hold onto the hope that I see him there behind the kit someday... There wasn't the excessive antics I was kind of expecting, but Jesse Hughes is awesome anyway. Oh and Joey Castillo is huge!
Check out my review of all the action here at FasterLouder or check out these videos from the night:
I Only Want You - This was the opening song and you have to wait a while for them to actually start playing because Jesse Hughes likes to strut. Kylie = top choice, though.
Wanna Be In LA - This was second last in the encore and pretty good also.
In anticipation of this Friday at the Corner Hotel, here's The Drones at Golden Plains festival this year...
And speaking of Golden Plains, what about a super late recap...
The Drones were the standout band for me at the festival this year - their great live show continues to impress me every time I see them. Gareth Liddiard is a gun.
You Am I were good the night before but the losers down the front (who continued to keep trying to mosh even though it clearly wasn't gonna happen) kind of killed them. People get frustrated with Tim Rogers for being arrogant - but it's clearly an act for the most part. Quite frankly, he can call himself the King of England for all I care - his songs are still awesome.
Bridezilla and Dan Kelly were my other favourites. Black Mountain were a surprise hit for me, too. Of Montreal should have been awesome, but they were just way to random to actually be engaging.
Here's Holiday from Bridezilla doing her thing:
And here are the Ukeladies doing their mobile phone duet (clever):
And Black Mountain:
And finally, who could forget this fella... Not freaky in the slightest...
